About Laie

Laie is located on the northeastern tip of the island of Oahu, between Kahuku and Hauula. This small city is the largest on the district having a population over 4500 inhabitants.

Laie hosts the Brigham Young University Hawaii campus. Near this building is located the renowned Polynesian Cultural Center where you can experience the Polynesian culture. The annual World Fire Knife Dance Competition, the canoe pageant "Rainbows of Paradise" or the dinner-show feasts, attract every year a large number of tourists.

The Laie Hawaii Temple is located near Laie, on the North Shore of Oahu. This is the fifth oldest operating temple of The Church of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) and it was built in 1919. The Laie Hawaii Temple, once called the "Taj Mahal of the Pacific" is shaped like a Grecian cross and is surrounded by palm trees, pools and a large fountain.

Hukilau Beach is known to be the one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Here you can enjoy a lot of summer activities such as: swimming, fishing, skin diving, snorkeling over a coral reef, boating, water skiing and wind surfing. Pounder's Beach (or Laie Beach Park) located south of the Polynesian Cultural Center is a great place for bodysurfing.

For tourists in search of adrenaline there is a moderate, two-hour hike to Laie Falls through the surrounding tropical foliage. Once you reach this spot you can see the amazing falls and pool and enjoy the magnificent landscapes of the ocean.
